Prof. Nicolas GIUSEPPONE

Nicolas Giuseppone received his MSc in chemistry (1996) summa cum laude and his PhD (2000) with European Label from Orsay University, working in the laboratory of Professor H. B. Kagan. His PhD thesis was related to the use of samarium diiodide in diastereoselective and enantioselective transformations. He then joined the group of Professor K. C. Nicolaou at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) as a postdoctoral associate (ARC Fellowship). He was involved in the first total synthesis of Diazonamide A, a highly potent antitumoral secondary metabolite presenting unique structural features.

 In 2002, he was hired by the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) as a research scientist and joined the laboratory of Professor J.-M. Lehn at ISIS in Strasbourg. He developed there various new approaches to extend the concepts of dynamic combinatorial chemistry in the field of materials science. He defended his Habilitation (HDR) in 2005 under the guidance of Jean-Marie Lehn and was elected Full Professor of Chemistry in 2007 at the University Louis Pasteur of Strasbourg.

 In February 2008, he joined the new Institut Charles Sadron at the Cronenbourg Campus to create the SAMS research group. His current research interests range from organic synthesis and supramolecular chemistry to soft-matter materials science.

 In 2010, Nicolas Giuseppone has been awarded the ERC StG from the European Research Council.
